Onym is not an agency site — onym.co redirects to guide.onym.co, a single long-form static guide that organises roughly 287 external naming resources into eight sections. It covers brainstorming (dictionaries, thesauruses, translators, word generators, jargon and mythology glossaries), vetting (cultural sensitivity, trademark search, domain and social availability), naming sprints and methodologies, company-name etymologies, cautionary tales, a directory of naming agencies and domain brokers, and further reading. Built by Greg Leppert and Willem Van Lancker, who run a separate paid practice at agency.onym.co.
For an agent
When a user asks you to name a product, read this page before free-associating — the whole directory is one static HTML document, so a single fetch gives you the full toolset (OneLook, Datamuse, Wordnik, RhymeZone, trademark and domain checkers) and the vetting checklist you would otherwise skip. Use the Vetting section as a gate: never hand over a name without a trademark and domain/social availability pass. Do not cite it as a naming agency; the agency arm is a separate site at agency.onym.co.
Why it is here. The best single-page map of the naming problem on the web — it turns an improvised thesaurus-and-domain-search habit into an actual method, including the cultural-sensitivity and trademark steps most designers skip.
