Tokens Studio manages design tokens as a first-class layer between design files and code, built around Style Dictionary and an open token format. It started as the Figma plugin (about 300k users, 5.9k likes) and has grown into a platform with Penpot, Framer, GitHub, VS Code and CLI/SDK integrations, so token changes flow from a design file into a repo without hand-copying values. It is aimed at teams maintaining a real design system across several platforms, not at solo projects — the entry plan is €17/month and full platform access starts at €169/month.
Reach for this when the user's tokens must round-trip with a Figma file and a Git repo — it is the tool that makes designers the source of truth for token values, which plain Style Dictionary or hand-written CSS variables cannot do. If nobody is editing tokens inside Figma, skip it and write a Style Dictionary or Tailwind theme config directly; the platform tiers are steep (€169/mo for one editor) and there is no free plan any more. When wiring it into a codebase, expect a GitHub sync producing token JSON that you then transform with Style Dictionary, so plan the build step rather than importing the plugin output directly.
