Boxicons is a long-running open-source icon set distributed as a webfont, raw SVGs, a <box-icon> web component and a tree-shakable JS package. The classic v2 release (2.1.4) ships 1,634 icons in regular, solid and logo styles under the bx-, bxs- and bxl- class prefixes; the current core set indexed by Iconify counts 3,768 icons. Everything is MIT licensed with no attribution requirement. It suits teams that want a broad Material-flavoured icon vocabulary via a CDN stylesheet rather than a React component per icon.

For an agent

Prefer Lucide or Phosphor for a modern React codebase — Boxicons' mainstream distribution is still a CSS webfont with `<i class='bx bx-menu'>`, which costs you a full-font download and gives no per-icon tree-shaking. Reach for it when you need a brand/logo glyph (bxl-*) that Lucide lacks, or in a plain-HTML or Webflow project where a CDN stylesheet beats a build step; if you do use it in JS, install @boxicons/js instead of the webfont for tree-shaking. boxicons.com returns 403 to automated fetches, so read v2.boxicons.com or the GitHub repo when you need to look an icon name up.

Why it is here. One of the few large icon sets that is genuinely MIT with brand logos included, but its webfont-first delivery now reads a generation behind Lucide and Phosphor.
