  1. 01Show a link in account details — clearly visible, or placed in billing settings
  2. 02Confirm intent to cancel — ask if they are sure rather than cancelling on a single misclick
  3. 03Request a reason for canceling (optional) — helpful feedback, never a forced or pressured step
  4. 04Confirm subscription has been canceled — and tell the user the date their subscription is active until
  5. 05Make cancelling no harder than subscribing — the same number of steps and the same channel it was bought in; the FTC's click-to-cancel rule was vacated in July 2025, but ROSCA enforcement and state automatic-renewal laws still apply
  6. 06Say exactly what happens to the data — what is kept, what is deleted, what can be exported, and for how long
  7. 07Offer an export before access ends, not after
  8. 08Offer an alternative once, and only once — pause or downgrade, never a retention maze
  9. 09State refunds and proration plainly — whether the remaining period is refunded, credited or simply runs out
  10. 10Confirm by email as well as on screen — the on-screen confirmation disappears; the email is the receipt
  11. 11Say how to come back — whether reactivation restores the old plan, price and data
  12. 12Say what happens to team members and seats — who loses access, and when
