A monospaced pixel font by Helena Zhang and Tobias Fried, drawn with a lo-fi technical character modelled on airport departure boards and old terminal hardware. Its specimen makes the argument directly: a flight board rendered in box-drawing characters, which is where a pixel monospace is genuinely useful rather than only stylish - tabular data, terminal output, timetables, anything aligned in columns. Box-drawing and block glyphs are covered, which most display monospaces omit. The typeface is released under the SIL Open Font License; the separate website repository is MIT. Currently v1.500.

For an agent

Reach for this when a brief wants a terminal, retro-computing or departure-board character and a normal monospace reads too clean. It is a pixel font, so it is built for a specific size grid - set it large or at its intended pixel sizes, and do not expect it to hint gracefully at small body sizes. Box-drawing and block glyphs are present, which is what makes it work for tables and terminal output rather than only headlines. It is not on Google Fonts and not on npm: download the release zip from https://github.com/rektdeckard/departure-mono/releases/latest and self-host. Note the two licences - the font is SIL OFL, the website repository is MIT, so do not cite the repo's MIT badge as the font's licence.

Why it is here. Most pixel and retro typefaces are display-only; this one carries the box-drawing and block glyphs that make a monospace usable for real tabular and terminal work.
