A curated gallery of typefaces available under some free licence, designed and maintained by Simon Foster. It indexes 87 faces across six classifications — Cursive, Display, Monospace, Sans Serif, Serif and Slab — in a grid or list view, with each detail page giving the classification, the number of styles, the exact licence (for example Commit Mono is 'SIL Open Font License 1.1'), selected glyphs and a 'Get this typeface' link straight to the foundry or repo. The selection leans editorial rather than exhaustive: Apfel Grotezk, Bluu Next, Karrik, Pilowlava, Departure Mono, Typefesse and Murmure sit alongside the obvious Inter, Work Sans, Lora and JetBrains Mono. It hosts nothing itself — every download goes to the source.

For an agent

Use this when a user wants a typeface with character and you would otherwise default to Inter — it is the fastest way to surface Apfel Grotezk, Karrik, Bluu Next or Departure Mono instead of the Google Fonts top ten, and every entry names its exact licence on the detail page. It is a link directory, not a CDN: it hosts no files and offers no npm package, so pair it with Fontsource or a self-hosted @font-face setup once the user picks one. Always open the individual typeface page and read the licence before you commit — 'free' here spans OFL, CC and personal-use-only, and personal-use faces will get a commercial project in trouble.

Why it is here. Taste is the scarce thing in free type, and this is one of the few free-font indexes curated by a designer rather than generated from a scrape — 87 faces you would actually specify, each with its licence stated plainly.
