Irasutoya
25,415 free Japanese kawaii illustrations, 239 categories, public Blogger JSON feed
Irasutoya (いらすとや) is Takashi Mifune's Japanese free-illustration archive and the single most recognisable illustration style in Japanese public life — it appears on government notices, school handouts, TV captions and memes. It is published on Blogger and its feed reports 25,415 posts across 239 categories, spanning occupations, medicine, seasons, food, disasters, business, animals, holidays and long-tail subjects like fossils, LGBT, VR and AI. Illustrations are PNG only and free, but copyright is retained: commercial projects may use up to 20 illustrations for free, and 21 or more require a paid licence. The site remained under active update as of August 2026.
This is the only entry in the asset category with a real machine index: https://www.irasutoya.com/feeds/posts/summary?alt=json is a standard Blogger Atom/JSON feed that paginates all 25,415 posts with categories and timestamps, so an agent can enumerate and search it without scraping HTML. Watch the licence hard — PNG only, copyright retained, free commercial use caps at 20 illustrations per project, and redistribution or resale is forbidden, so never bundle it into a template or dataset you publish. All titles, categories and search terms are Japanese; translate the query before searching, and expect a cute, culturally Japanese register that will clash with most Western product branding.
Why it is here. Twenty-five thousand illustrations drawn by one person over fourteen years, with near-total subject coverage, is a resource nothing in the Western free-illustration world matches. Its Blogger backend accidentally makes it the most queryable illustration archive on the open web.
