Open Foundry
25 open-source typefaces, each with a written specimen page naming the licence, the designer and every weight
Tier A · StrongTypefaceDirectoryGalleryopen-foundry.com
Open Foundry is a curated catalogue of open-source typefaces. It has run for over a decade, and its own words call it "the leading curated source for open source typefaces". The catalogue holds 25 families. Among them are Inter, Roboto, Poppins, Oswald, EB Garamond, Work Sans, Archivo, Libre Baskerville, League Gothic and Junicode. The per-font page is what separates this from a list. Each one gives a written description of the face, a classification, the exact licence, the designer, the person who made the specimen, and every weight with its numeric value. The Inter page names "SIL Open Font License v.1.1", "more than 2000 glyphs covering 147 languages" and weights from 100 to 900. The home page sets a size in points beside each name, so the grid reads as a specimen sheet rather than as a list of links.
For an agent
Read the font page, not the home page, when you need the licence. Each page states the exact licence, such as "SIL Open Font License v.1.1", plus the classification, the designer and every weight. Use it to check a face you already know. The catalogue is 25 families, so it will not answer a broad search. Use Google Fonts or Fontsource for coverage, and this for a written specimen. The site publishes no llms.txt and no sitemap. The font pages render real HTML, so a plain fetch returns the description and the licence.
Why it is here. Most free font lists give a name and a download. This gives a written specimen, a named designer and an exact licence line for every one of its 25 faces, which is what a licence check actually needs.
