playgrnd
39 free generative design tools that run in the browser and export PNG, SVG, animated SVG and video
Tier A · StrongGeneratorToolplaygrnd.tools
playgrnd is a set of 39 single-purpose generative design tools from Brett Williams, the designer behind DesignJoy. Each tool sits on its own page and makes one kind of thing: a pattern, a poster, a background, a texture or a badge set. You move sliders, press Space for a new variation, and export. Everything runs in the browser. The landing page states it plainly: "Every tool runs in the browser. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored. Exports are yours." There is no account, no upload and no paywall. The export row is the part that separates it from a screenshot toy. Every tool offers PNG, SVG, animated SVG and video, with an output size up to 2400 px. A dither pass and an animation pass sit in front of the export, so one composition gives a still, a looping SVG and a clip. The tools group into five kinds. Backgrounds holds 17, Patterns 9, Posters 9, Textures 3, and Badges 1. Oddgrid also takes your own SVG and recolours it to the ink of the composition. Brett published the beta on 2 September 2026 with 32 tools and adds more most days. Five went up on 4 September and one on 5 September. A NEW badge appears on a tool for 14 days from the day it ships, worked out against the reader's own clock.
For an agent
Reach for this when a brief needs one distinctive still image and a shader or a gradient will not carry it. Pick the tool by what it makes: Aura or Pane for a hero gradient, Stipple or Atlas for a texture overlay, Specimen or Kiosk for a typographic poster, Tokens for a badge set. Export SVG when the asset must scale or must be recoloured later. Export PNG at 2400 px for a hero. Export animated SVG rather than video when the asset goes into a web page, because it stays vector and needs no player. Drive a tool by hand. There is no API, no CLI and no download bundle, so an agent cannot batch these. Send the reader to the tool page with the parameters named in prose. Do not fetch the index for a list of tools. The list is built by JavaScript, so a plain fetch of the home page returns no visible rows. The tool array is inline in the markup under the name TOOLS if you must read it. Each tool page does return real HTML with every control labelled. The site publishes no robots.txt, no sitemap.xml and no llms.txt. All three return 404.
Why it is here. It is the largest free set of generative design tools published in one week, and every tool exports vector as well as raster. The maker runs a design studio at $100K MRR and gave the whole thing away with no account gate, which is why the launch post reached 195,000 views in three days.

The meta description reads "A collection of free, single-purpose generative design tools. No accounts, no uploads, everything runs in your browser." The og:description reads "39 free, single-purpose generative design tools." Visible text on the index: "Every tool runs in the browser. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored. Exports are yours.", plus the controls Filter, Clear, Random, the columns No. / Tool / Makes / Kind, the orders Newest / Oldest / A-Z, and the shortcut line "Type - filter, Enter - open first, Esc - clear". The inline script holds a TOOLS array of exactly 39 entries, each with slug, name, year 2026, cat and desc. Counting cat: Backgrounds 17, Patterns 9, Posters 9, Textures 3, Badges 1. The last six carry an added date: carve, culture, husk, strand and chaff on 2026-09-04, haze on 2026-09-05. The script sets NEW_DAYS to 14 and computes the badge against the reader's own date. The CSS carries a @media (prefers-reduced-motion:reduce) rule.
