The League of Moveable Type opened in February 2009 and calls itself "the original, the first, the open-source font foundry". It started with one font and a manifesto. The sitemap lists 18 font pages: The Neue Black, Blackout, Chunk, Fanwood, Goudy Bookletter 1911, Junction, Knewave, League Gothic, League Mono, League Script, League Spartan, Linden Hill, Orbitron, Ostrich Sans, Prociono, Raleway, Sniglet and Sorts Mill Goudy. Several of those are now defaults across the web. The site states the terms plainly: "The whole catalogue of carefully-picked fonts are free to use however and wherever you need, to build on and learn from." Each font page carries an FAQ. It also publishes a book, Making Sense of Font Licensing, and a manifesto. A team page credits nine people, among them Tre Seals, Barry Schwartz and Micah Rich. A membership and a set of courses sit beside the free catalogue.

Why it is here. It is the oldest open-source font foundry on the web, and several of its faces became defaults that other catalogues now redistribute. Its licensing book is a rare plain-language source on a subject most font sites avoid.
