Fonts In Use is an independent archive of typography in the wild: 34,302 catalogued examples of real design work, each annotated with the typefaces identified in it. It is cross-indexed three ways — 37 industry topics (Music 6,723, Art 5,024, Event 3,428, Food/Beverage 3,254 and so on), 21 formats (Branding/Identity 9,066, Books 6,971, Posters/Flyers 6,122, Web 5,982), and by typeface (Futura 1,232 uses, Helvetica 1,508, Univers 651). It has run since December 2010 and accepts public submissions, with 6,331 entries marked as staff picks.
For an agent
Unlike Dribbble or Behance, this one is genuinely readable — the pages are server-rendered HTML with the typeface names, designers and commentary in the markup, so a plain fetch of a topic or typeface URL returns real text you can reason over. Use it to answer 'what type do record sleeves / municipal signage / literary presses actually use', then map the answer to a licensable equivalent, because most of the typefaces catalogued here are commercial foundry releases, not Google Fonts. The images are third-party works with no reuse licence, so cite and link rather than copy.
Why it is here. The only serious evidence base for typographic decisions — it replaces taste-arguments with a searchable record of what practitioners actually set.
