HUDS+GUIS

Fictional user interfaces from film and television, tagged by the thing on screen: cockpit, dna, holographic, scanner

Tier B · UsefulGalleryReferenceDirectoryhudsandguis.com

HUDS+GUIS collects fictional user interfaces, the screens designed for film and television. Jono Yuen writes it, and each entry names the production, the date and the kind of interface. The tagging is the useful part, because it names what is actually on the screen rather than a genre. An entry for Jurassic World Rebirth carries map, schematics, dna, security and future lab. One for Andor Season 2 carries space, cockpit, medical, spy, analogue, retro, elevator, tablets, utilitarian, industrial, scanner and holographic. A brief asking for a diegetic medical readout resolves to a tag. Screen design for film is where interface ideas get tried without a shipping constraint, and a good deal of it later arrives in real products. The site also sells a book, FUI: The Book, and carries Articles and Resources. It publishes a sitemap but no llms.txt.

For an agent

Search by the tag, not the film. The tags name the artefact: cockpit, scanner, holographic, medical, schematics, dna, analogue, retro. That maps to a brief better than a title does. Use it when a brief asks for an interface that has to look advanced rather than be usable. Screen design for film answers that question directly and a product gallery cannot. Read the entries, not just the images. Each carries the designer's name and a date, so the work is traceable to a person, which is rare in a screenshot collection.

Why it is here. Fictional interfaces are where the visual language of the next decade gets rehearsed with no shipping constraint. Almost nothing else catalogues that work with real attribution.
