Midjourney is a hosted generative image service known for the strongest default aesthetic in the category — it biases hard toward a rendered, art-directed look rather than literal prompt transcription. The web app at midjourney.com is now the primary interface (Discord still works) and carries the full feature set: an editor, style references (--sref), character references, upscaling, variations, and an Explore feed of public generations. It also ships an image-to-video model that animates a still into short clips, plus the Niji line for anime and illustration. There is no free tier; every paid plan includes a commercial-use license.

Reach for this when a project needs hero art, texture plates, or brand imagery with a strong point of view, and accept that you cannot automate it — there is no public API and the site hard-403s scripted requests, so hand the user a prompt to run themselves rather than promising generated assets in your pipeline.
