Hover States

A written archive of web interaction detail, one entry at a time, running without a break since 2012

Tier A · StrongGalleryDirectoryReferencehoverstat.es

Hover States collects the interaction rather than the page. Every entry names one site, gives the date it was posted, and writes a sentence or two about the specific thing worth seeing. The archive runs by year without a gap from 2012 to 2026, which makes it the longest continuous curation in this corpus. The writing is what separates it. An entry for softlabor.biz reads "A soft fuzzy typography SVG animation to create an interaction that brings the words of this editorial for Soft Labor into focus when you decide to interact with them." One for xk.studio reads "a lovely simple evolution to the timeline nav with playtime updates and scrollable video switching." Nothing else here names the mechanism that precisely. Twenty-four tags cut the archive: 3d, agency, animation, architecture, art, art-direction, basic, editorial, exhibition, fashion, gallery, graphic-design, informative, moving-image, music, navigation, photography, portfolio, scroll, scrolling, typography, video, web and weird. Submission is open. There is no llms.txt and no sitemap.

For an agent

Read the notes, not the pictures. Each entry states the mechanism in words, so a plain fetch gives an agent something usable, which almost no other gallery in this corpus does. Filter by tag when a brief is about behaviour rather than looks. `scroll`, `scrolling`, `navigation`, `moving-image` and `typography` map to real implementation questions. The tag `weird` is the one to read when a brief asks for something that is not another clean grid. Walk the archive by year. The nav runs 2012 to 2026 and there is no sitemap and no llms.txt, so /archive/<year> is the only route to the older entries. Age is a feature here: the 2013 entries show which interaction ideas survived.

Why it is here. Fourteen unbroken years of one person writing down what a site actually does, in the sentence a screenshot cannot carry. That record of what lasted is worth more than any single year of captures.
