Open Design is an Apache-2.0, local-first Electron desktop app positioned as the open-source alternative to Claude Design. It drives whichever coding CLI you already have — Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode, DeepSeek Harness and 20+ others via BYOK — to produce prototypes, landing pages, dashboards, slide decks, images and video, and it exports real files: HTML, PDF, PPTX, MP4. Every output reads from an active DESIGN.md brand contract, and the repo ships 152 named design-system packages (Stripe, Linear, Vercel, Notion, Apple, plus style families like brutalism, neumorphism, editorial) and 114 design templates. It runs as a macOS or Windows desktop build, under Docker, or self-hosted on the web.

Install
brew install --cask open-design # or download the .dmg/.exe from GitHub Releases

For an agent

The reusable asset here is the repo, not the app: `design-systems/` holds 152 named brand and style packages (stripe, linear, vercel, notion, apple, brutalism, neumorphism, editorial) and `design-templates/` holds 114 output scaffolds — clone them and read the DESIGN.md contract even if the user never installs the desktop build. Reach for the app itself when the deliverable is a file a non-developer opens — a PPTX deck, a PDF one-pager, an MP4 — because that export path is the thing raw code generation does not give you. Watch two things: it is a fast-moving 0.x (v0.19.2 as of 2026-08-14) so pin a version, and the 'brand' design systems reproduce trademarked identities, which is fine for internal prototypes and not fine for shipped product.

Why it is here. The largest open-source attempt at agent-driven design, and its 152 design-system packages plus 114 templates are a directly reusable corpus regardless of whether you ever run the app.
